Deep Dive 1: The Cost of Bias: In Society and at Work

Location: Amelia Ballroom

The conversation on how to create more equitable organizations is not a new one, and as the world changes in the coming decades – when there is no racial or ethnic majority in the United States, when women of color (WOC) will make up the majority of women in the United States – it is imperative to understand the roots of bias toward WOC and the effects on how WOC show up to the workplace. In this conversation, we will explore the systemic inequities of being a WOC in this country, reflect on our own participation in forms of unconscious bias and understand the tools WOC use to adapt to these biases. Join us as we push the conversation on empowering women of color, who not only represent a critical source of talent, but whose intersectional identify provides a much needed perspective across any organization.

Deep Dive 2: A Drama-Free Workplace

Location: Magnolia C

Perez knows a thing or two about building and sustaining safe, equitable and healthy workplace cultures. She combines her vast experience as a licensed California attorney, a professionally certified HR executive, a specialist in the prevention and resolution of workplace drama, an expert witness in state and federal court, a state regulator and an entrepreneur to create a revolutionary shift in the way we communicate and make decisions at work. Drawing from her book, The Drama-Free Workplace, Perez explains how leaders can proactively avoid workplace drama by taking steps to identify the unconscious influences that might negatively impact decision-making, improving empathy skills and developing “fairness” strategies that help identify, prevent and resolve issues of workplace sexual harassment.
